This photograph based board book uses pictures of baby animals in Yosemite to educate young children about the wildlife and happenings within Yosemite. The book concludes with the question "What will you do in Yosemite today?" Which puts the listener/child into the context of nature as a participant.
Each set of pages includes simple sentences capture the sentiment of the photos. "Gentle fawn stops to drink. Mama and owlets pause to think. Little duckling swims on by. Young woodpecker yearns to fly." The lexicon is simple and there is an interesting selection of verbs that make good foundation to a young child's vocabulary (yearn, pause, tries, scurry).
There was one disappointment for me- there wasn't enough of Yosemite in the photographs. I guess that would have been too distracting and it would be difficult to get a photo of a coyote cub howling in front of the Half Dome.
