Beautiful wordless illustration of the seasons that illuminates the changes made by nature through depictions of a single tree and its surroundings.
An anonymous Italian reviewer succinctly and aptly wrote, "A story without words, as silent as a beautiful snowfall. An empty nest is waiting for new occupants and, a dormouse in his comfortable den, a log waiting for the thaw. Everything seems to be asleep, until one day, comes the spring the seeds sprout, the dormouse wakes up, the tree is full of leaves, a pair of birds occupying the nest." With wordless picture books, young children can become the storytellers and use their own imagination to create narratives. The simple changing of seasons witnessed by the tree can hold multiple stories, which make this a good book to share repetitively. In addition, babies and toddlers can focus on just the illustrations, instead of words in the story, which in turn is a more fitting way to view this story of nature. This book would be a better book for parents to share with their young children than in a public story time setting.
