A tale of a mouse's tail.
How many ways can a tail be used? This Japanese picture book was a surprise. Opening the book, the user finds an elastic blue string running through the pages linking them all together. Following the blue string one finds that it is actually a mouse's tail. A really long tail. This mouse begins the story with ways he can use his tail for good. He uses it to pull a decaying tooth out of a hippo's mouth, to link a can to play telephone with a lonely giraffe, helps an exhausted pig up a hill, rescues a drowning rabbit from wild seas, and so on. Until the conclusion when he meets a cat. He loses his tail and decides that it is better to have a short tail. Looking on the bright side is always nice in books.
Overall, I also enjoyed this unique book. I think that it can be used to encourage early literacy with its unique illustrations and optimistic plot.
